There are eleven different porcupine species, each with long spikes covering their back and tails, protecting them from predators. These slow, clumsy-moving rodents are nocturnal, living in holes or burrows in deserts and forests. They feed on plants, roots, fruit, and tree bark. They may be cute, but don't try to pet one!
