Food, Family & Thankfulness (not necessarily in that order)

Happy Thanksgiving from the CDK Kids Crew!
Thanksgiving is a special time of year to spend quality time with family and friends while reflecting on the blessings in our lives. It is also the perfect opportunity to create cherished memories for kids of all ages. Unfortunately our kids are oftentimes SO focused on Christmas that Thanksgiving gets lost in the shuffle. Luckily, through food, imagination, and thankfulness, Thanksgiving can easily be on par with Santa and gingerbread cookies! Here are some tips to make that happen:

  • Thankfulness
  • Themed writing prompts are a fun and imaginative way to embrace thankfulness with your little pilgrims. For example, have your kids elaborate on these fall holiday themes, or choose your own favorite writing prompts. Have fun and get creative!
    • My favorite Thanksgiving foods are:
    • If I could help somebody less fortunate on Thanksgiving, I would:
    • I am most grateful for:
    • My favorite family Thanksgiving tradition is:
    • If I were a turkey, I would say:
  • Be sure to get the whole family involved with this activity. At your Thanksgiving meal, go around the table and share your answers. Kids and adults alike will be delighted!
  • Food to gobble down, kid style
    • Sparkling cider is the perfect festive drink to celebrate the season. Make it even more special by the way you serve it… holiday mugs, sturdy stemware, or your favorite Snoopy Christmas glasses.
    • Another fun idea is to prepare special turkey kabobs - a delicious and healthy way to dress up turkey and make it kid-friendly. Start with chunks of cut turkey, cheese cubes, and favorite fruits on kabob sticks. Your kids will love assembling a unique creation.
    • Turkey Pear Recipe from Spoonful
    • And, of course, we can’t forget about dessert! An easy idea is to make a pear turkey. Start with a pear, some mini m&ms, cashews and apple slices. Use peanut butter to “glue” on the m&m eyes, cashew nose, and assemble the apples all around the turkey to form the many feathers. Trust me - your little ones will be talking about this gooble-licous dessert for weeks! This picture shows a similar version of a turkey pear dessert. Click on the picture for all the details! (Thanks Spoonful!)
At CDK, we are thankful for family, fun, food, and YOU - our wonderful friends! We hope you have the BEST Thanksgiving ever! Happy Thanksgiving!
